After seeing off Newmarket Town this weekend, Cambridge City have been awarded another away leg in this season’s Emirates FA Cup.

The Lilywhites made light work of the lower division Jockeys on Saturday afternoon as they recorded a 4-1 victory to secure their place in the first qualifying round of the world’s oldest cup competition.

And their reward is another trip, this time to Leighton Town, with the match scheduled for Saturday 2nd September.

Leighton plays in the equivalent level Pitching in the Southern League Central Division and they are unbeaten after their two games so far, picking up four runs.

The Bedfordshire side reached this stage of the competition thanks to Saturday’s 1-0 win at the expense of Enfield.

Meanwhile, a visit to City against Newmarket had to survive some early pressure from their lower division hosts before captain Scott Bridges blasted them forward from range in the 30th minute.

From then on, City took control of the game and within three minutes Stan Leech had doubled their lead with a bet that came in off the far post.

Dan Cotton fired in a third for City after the restart, before Newmarket left-back Jake Eady turned the ball into his own net to make it 4–0.

To their credit, Newmarket lived up to their call throughout and they got a consolation goal in stoppage time through Ash Walter.

Robbie Nightingale’s City will return to league commitments tomorrow night when they host Quorn.
