Ex-NFL star RG3 wants to postpone the Chiefs-Dolphins match due to freezing temperatures: ‘It’s not football weather’
Former NFL star Robert Griffin III pleaded with the NFL to postpone the Kansas City Chiefs-Miami Dolphins game after the Buffalo Bills-Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game was rescheduled due to weather.
The Bills and Steelers were postponed due to snow and wind expected to hit Buffalo this weekend. Up to a meter of snow could fall in the region.
Griffin, the former Washington Redskins star quarterback and ESPN analyst, applauded New York officials for rescheduling the game and said officials should do the same for the Chiefs and Dolphins. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas claimed the city was still “ready” for the game.

“You watch the Chiefs-Dolphins game and you’re like, ‘No, we’re just going to play that.’ Guess what? They’re having negative 1 degree weather. Winds are supposed to reach minus 30 degrees. Oh yeah, and there’s snow,” Griffin said in a video. “And there are wind speeds of up to 46 km per hour.”
“Are you trying to tell me that’s safe? No, no, it’s not safe. Not for the players, not for the fans, not for the coaches, and it’s not football weather.
“Guys, football is a brutal sport. It’s the gladiatorial sport. The toughest people in the world play football. The saying, ‘Oh, we’ll play them anytime, anywhere, whatever the weather’. It’s just a saying. We use that to pump up our guys, our teammates, because listen, if we have to play in these conditions, we’re going to play in them. It is what it is. And we’re not going to complain about it.”

“But if the NFL really cares about player safety, it’s their job to do what’s in the best interest of the players. Plus, the weather is unsafe. And winter isn’t coming, it’s here! It’s It is not gentle to say that, ‘under these circumstances they must be moved.'”
Griffin also said that from now on, NFL stadiums should have a dome.
“From this moment on, there should never be another stadium in the NFL that is built without a roof. Make it all a dome and make it safer for the players without all these elements.”
The game will be one of the coldest games ever. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM ET.
